IS THE CALL SIGN OF THE EGYPTIAN RADIO CLUB (ERC)

 

WHO ARE WE

The Egyptian Radio Club (ERC) is a not-for-profit coporation, incorporated in the state of Illinois for the purpose of supporting the amateur radio community in the Metropolitan St. Louis area. The goal of the ERC is three fold. We provide equipment and service to for both the receational use of licensed amateur radio operators in the area covered by our repeaters. We also provide an opportunity for amateur operatators, and those interested in the hobby to come together to learn, share ideas and join in social activities sponserd by the Egyptian Radio Club. The ERC also supports and it's members participate with the emergencey service orgainzations in the region. Our repeaters in Madison County Illinois, and St. Louis Missouri provide coverage for a multiple county area.

Amateur radio has a long history of service. This includes providing a wide variety of communications services including communications for our service personnel stationed overseas as well as emergency communications during storms, earthquakes, and other disasters both at home and abroad. The Egyptian Radio Club and its members have supported those efforts in the past and stand ready to do so again when the need arises.

Why are we called the Egyptian Radio Club

Many people want to know why an orgaization based in Madison county Illinois is named the Egyptian Radio Club. The answer is very simple. Sourhern Illinois was often refered to as little Egypt due to the Mississippi river basin and joining of the Ohio and Mississippi rivers at Cairo Illinois.
